Thermage

The Thermage procedure is an advanced way of tightening skin that uses a unique form of radiofrequency energy to allow the Physician to tighten loose or sagging skin, producing a kind of "lift" without an incision or recovery time.  With the gentle touch of the device tip, the surface of the skin is cooled, while the deeper tissue, is altered by radiofrequency heating. This not only tightens deeper skin tissue, but jumpstarts new collagen production, which occurs over a period of time.

While not a substitute for a surgical facelift, the Thermage procedure can be used on patients with a moderate amount of sagging skin and wrinkles. The Thermage procedure is sometimes referred to as a mini-face lift, ThermaLift or DermalLift by physicians who have observed that this non-surgical procedure lifts and tightens tissue, similar to a facelift without the surgery.  Thermage is now FDA approved for the body.

Titan

The Titan Procedure is a safe, non-surgical process that uses an infrared light source to tighten skin and reverse the signs of aging. The Titan heats the dermis to cause collagen contraction while preserving the epidermis through continuous cooling. In addition, Titan can stimulate long-term collagen rebuilding that leaves patients with younger looking skin. This procedure takes 2-4 treatments to see the desired results.

Portrait Plasma

The medical community has been using plasmas – highly charged ionized gas – for many years. Rhytec, a world leader in energy-based technologies, has successfully translated this revolutionary technology to the specialties of dermatology and cosmetic surgery. Known as Portrait®, the Plasma Skin Regeneration procedure is unparalleled for wrinkle reduction, tightening, and improvement in skin tone and texture. No other procedure treats more conditions at the same time — all of which are achieved with a low risk profile in which your own skin acts as a natural biological dressing during the healing process

Laserscope

Ablation is the gold standard treatment for wrinkles or scars. "From light lunchtime" peels to full resurfacing, no method offers better results. Procedure volumes are set to grow dramatically as users better understand cosmetic benefits.

Laser resurfacing has stood the test of time for many cosmetic concerns, including fine wrinkling around the eyes, forehead, nose, and mouth as well as the lingering effects of chicken pox, acne scars, superficial pigmented lesions, and other surface abnormalities. No other procedure is as flexible in its downtime and outcomes. This characteristic makes resurfacing a popular method of treating surface concerns. While non ablative treatments target deeper structures, ablative treatments target treat right at the surface.

IPL FotoFacial

Fotofacial is a non-abrasive and non-invasive rejuvenation of your skin using the remarkable new technology of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). IPL FotoFacial technology can correct or erase the signs of photoaging, rosacea, sun damage, and brown spots on the face, hands and body. It has also been used to reduce the appearance of mild acne scars, dark circles around the eyes, and to reduce fine lines around the eyes and mouth.

Using a cold gel applied to the area to be treated, the IPL FotoFacial handpiece is gently applied to your skin as pulses of light are emitted. Usually, four to six treatment sessions, lasting about 20 minutes each, will provide you with beautiful long term results.

 Laser Genesis

Laser Genesis is a non-ablative procedure that can reduce visible facial vessels as well as diffuse redness by gently warming the upper dermis, improving the appearance of your skin. The result is a healthy looking and vibrant appearance. The Laser Genesis procedure utilizes laser technology that can safely, discreetly and effectively treat small targets like fine and undesirable facial vessels or vessels that cause diffuse redness. Unlike many other treatment methods, Laser Genesis is a comfortable, non-ablative form of skin therapy. This means you will be able to see subtle yet consistent results after each treatment, without the unwanted side effects such as bruising or excessive skin irritation. Your therapy can be performed in a relaxed comfortable manner without the use of general or local anesthesia, gel or cream.

Photo Dynamic Therapy

Photodynamic therapy is a new treatment for some types of cancer. It may also be used to treat some non-cancerous conditions of the skin or eye. PDT is not yet established as a standard treatment, and research is continuing to find its exact role as a cancer treatment.

PDT uses laser, or other light sources, combined with a light sensitive drug (sometimes called a photosensitising agent) to destroy cancer cells. Within a period of three hours, the drug is selectively modified and concentrates in diseased cells while largely clearing from normal tissue. The drug remains inactive until exposed to  light. When applied, the light energy, delivered to the cancer site, chemically activates the active metabolite and creates a toxic form of oxygen which destroys the cancerous and pre-cancerous cells with minimal damage to healthy cells. Most PDT treatment can be performed, on an outpatient basis.

 blu u light

Blu-U utilizes blue light which selectively activates photosensitizers within the P.acnes bacteria that cause acne.  This creates a toxic bactericidal environment in the sebaceous gland that inhibits the obstruction of the sebaceous follicle with the resulting formation of acne lesions.   The Blu-U is completely painless, and involves a short treatment time of only 16 minutes.  One simply sits in front of the light with special goggles on, twice weekly for four weeks, then once a week for four weeks, and your treatment series is completed painlessly and effectively

BOTOX® Therapy

BOTOX® injections are the fastest-growing cosmetic procedure in the industry, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). In 2001, more than 1.6 million people received injections, an increase of 46 percent over the previous year. More popular than breast enhancement surgery and a potential blockbuster, Botox is regarded by some as the ultimate fountain of youth.

Restylane

Recently FDA approved for use in the United States, Restylane is an Injectable material like Collagen.  Used in Europe and Canada for nearly a decade, it appears that it is both longer lasting than other materials and causes less hypersensitivity reactions.  Restylane, a naturally occurring biodegradable polysaccharide, is a hyaluronic acid produced by fermentation and metabolized by the body.   Restylane is used to smoothen skin in the lower face, particularly around the mouth, cheeks and lips. Restylane requires no prior skin testing and lasts between 6-12 months.

Cosmoplast/cosmoderm

CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast are the first commercially available, FDA-approved dermal fillers in the United States that do not require a skin test prior to use. Based on more than 20 years of research into the science of the skin, CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast are new, innovative treatments for facial rejuvenation. CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast contain human collagen purified from human dermal tissue and manufactured under controlled laboratory conditions. CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast do not require a pre-treatment skin test and are uniquely formulated with an anesthetic for patient comfort. As a result, CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast provide new options to meet the need for a same-day, single-visit treatment.

Radiesse

Radiesse is an injectable implant material that can fill the lines around the face, especially the laugh lines. Unlike bovine collagen, no allergy testing is required. The material can be placed without any skin testing. Best of all, Radiesse lasts years as opposed to months like Collagen. Although slightly more costly than Collagen, in the long term, less money is actually spent. Other applications for Radiesse include filling out depressions and scars on the face. The correction achieved is both predictable and long lasting.

Sculptra

Sculptra™ is an injectable sculpting agent that restores volume to correct the signs of facial fat loss. It has been FDA approved for restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) in people with human immunodeficiency virus. Sculptra™ is a safe, synthetic, and biocompatible material that is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss. It provides a gradual and significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas. No skin testing is required.

Sculptra™ (poly-L-lactic acid) has been safely used outside the United States since 1999 in over 150,000 patients under the trade name New-Fill™. The results from Sculptra™ can be up to 2 years. Many feel in the future it will be more commonly used for other cosmetic conditions, other than HIV related facial wasting. It is believed the ability to restore volume to the subcutaneous tissue from fat loss, which occurs with aging, will be accomplished nicely with Sculptra™ and may delay the need for facelift or skin tightening procedures simply by adding volume to an aged face.

Juvederm®

Juvederm® was recently approved by the FDA in the U.S. for the treatment of facial wrinkles and folds.  Juvederm®, which is quite similar to Restylane®, is another non-animal form of cross-linked hyaluronic acid. Juvaderm® is biosynthetic and of non-animal origin. Since it is not created from an animal source, there is little chance of allergic reaction. The formula is highly biocompatible, and no testing is required prior to administration. It has been proven to be safe and effective for skin of all types and colors. Juvederm® is most commonly used in the medium thickness for lip augmentation and to reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds. Like Restylane®, Juvederm® doesn’t require allergy testing and lasts from 6 to a year.

Captique

Captique is a new, non-animal-sourced hyaluronic acid. There's no testing required and no waiting for test results. Captique can be admininstered during your initial visit. An even bigger plus on the cosmetic end is it's extremely brief "response potential". Some of the other fillers have a higher incidence of reaction in the form of swelling. Captique has one of the lower "response potentials" and most patients, if they experience any swelling at all, find it dissipates in a matter of a few hours.

Lipodissolve

Cellulite is a common term used to describe trapped fat which causes uneven dimpling.  Cellulite is hereditary and has little to do with body weight.  It is caused by bands within the fat which pull the fat and skin down causing indentations in the skin.  It is also caused by encapsulation of the fat causing a soft modularity feel to the skin.  We treat cellulite with Dermasonic alone or with a combination of Dermasonic and mesotherapy.  Mesotherapy involves injection of the fat with a solution that dissolves fat, breaks up the fibrous bands and breaks down the encapsulation.  We then ultrasound the fat to heat it up.  One week later we perform Dermasonic, a suction massage of the skin and fat which further breaks down the fibrous bands and fat encapsulation.  This again is preceeded by ultrasound to heat the fat.   This combination leads to very good results.  We typically do an initial series of 4 mesotherapy and 4 dermasonic.  There is then maintenance with a single treatment every 3 months to keep the result localized.

Fat Reduction

Localized fat is fat that just won’t go away despite on –going exercise and diet.  Most people have at least one resistant area of fat.  The most common areas tend to be the tummy, love handles, back, hips, thighs, buttocks and upper arms.

We offer 2 excellent approaches to localized fat reduction:

Lipodissolve, also sometimes called mesotherapy is dissolving fat with an injection of a solution into the fat.  The process generally involves 4-6 sessions of fat injection and 4-6 dermasonics per area to be treated.  The first step in lipodissolve is to inject the fat.  Immediately after, the fat is ultrasounded to warm it up.  One week later the patient returns for dermasonic, ( a suction massage and ultrasound, which helps move the fat out of the area).  Gradually the fat in the area reduces and the bulge diminishes.  The ideal patient is at or slightly above ideal body weight and definitely not obese.

Tumescent liposuction

Tumescent Liposuction or Minimally Invasive Liposuction involves suctioning the fat out of the area.  This process is now done with the patient awake using a dilute numbing solution to numb the fat and skin.  Only 1 or 2 areas are treated in a given day.  These 2 factors make the procedure much safer than standard liposuction done with the patient asleep.  In Tumescent Liposuction the skin and fat are anesthetized with local anesthetic.  The fat is then broken up with a special instrument and then suctioned out through tiny puncture holes.  There are no stitches, the body heals very quickly from the procedure.  Most patients can return to work with just a weekend off to recover.  Fat is removed quickly, safely and painlessly.

One of the most significant improvements in liposuction in recent years has been the use of tumescent anesthesia, introduced by dermatologist Dr. Jeffrey Klein a few years ago. Tumescent liposuction (Tumescent Technique) refers to the performance of liposuction using large volumes of a dilute solution of lidocaine, a local anesthetic, in combination with the drug epinephrine which temporarily shrinks capillaries. This is comfortably performed with minimal sedation required.
The Tumescent Technique minimizes post-operative discomfort. Because the residual local anesthesia lasts for 12-18 hours or more, plain Tylenol is sufficient to treat post-operative discomfort, although you will be provided with stronger medication if needed. With the Tumescent Technique there is no post-surgical nausea, nor the unpleasant feeling of "hang-over" usually associated with general anesthesia.
The Tumescent Technique dramatically reduces both the bleeding during surgery, and the post-operative bruising and swelling as compared to liposuction done purely by general anesthesia.. Minimal bleeding reduces post-operative recovery time. Most patients can return to work within three to four days after surgery. An elastic support garment is worn for a few weeks following surgery.

About 90% of patients can actually see at least some improvement in their silhouette by one week after surgery. However, because of the slow resolution of post-surgical swelling, the FINAL results following liposuction cannot be assessed until 6 months after surgery.

Evlt

The EVLT Closure procedure, an alternative treatment option to traditional vein stripping surgery, brings state of the art technology to an age old disease. The Closure procedure is an outpatient (day surgery) treatment. A thin catheter is inserted into the vein through a small opening, using only a single needle stick. The catheter delivers radiofrequency energy to the vein wall, causing it to heat, collapse, and seal shut. Once the diseased vein is closed, other healthy veins take over and empty blood from your legs. As normal return flow is re-established, your symptoms should improve noticeably. Following the procedure, the catheter is removed, a bandage is placed over the insertion site and your leg may be wrapped typically for 1 day to aid healing.  Our vascular specialist may ask you to walk, wear compression stockings, and to refrain from long periods of standing for a period of time following the procedure to help speed your recovery. Many patients resume normal activities within 1-2 days.

Phlebectomy

Phlebectomy is an office procedure used to surgically remove unwanted varicose veins. Phlebectomy can be performed for removing any large varicose veins and is done using Turnescent (a type of local) anesthetic. The procedure is done by making tiny nick incisions along the course of the vein and removing sections of the vein using a special hook. In most cases no suturing is needed. Nick incisions are tiny and typically leave very minimal scarring.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is the removal of veins by injecting a substance, usually saline, foam or glycerin, into the vein. The substance coats the inner lining of the vein, causing the vein to be reabsorbed gradually by the body. We most commonly perform sclerotherapy with foam for large varicose veins and with glycerin or sodium tetraderyl sulfate for spider veins. We often combine sclerotherapy with laser to achieve the most effective, most rapid and least uncomfortable removal of leg veins. *

*All patients should have a minimum of a venous Doppler exam prior to proceeding with any vein treatment of any type. This exam is performed painlessly in our office at the time of the consultation at no extra cost. An abnormal Doppler exam suggests that deep veins that cannot be seen on the surface are leaky and need to be treated also. Failure to recognize and treat deep veins will lead to rapid reoccurrence of spider and varicose veins on the surface. This fact represents one of the main causes of unsuccessful treatment of veins. Make sure you have had at least a Doppler exam before you proceed with any vein treatment!

Laser Vein Therapy

Laser vein therapy is a modern procedure for the treatment of leg veins. At the Dermatology and Laser Center, we utilize an advanced long pulse laser ... the VersaPulseT by Coherent . VersaPulse treats veins with pulses of highly concentrated green light. The beams color is significant in that the color of a particular laser is key to its effect on spider veins, since certain colors of light are absorbed by specific colors in the skin's pigmentation. The laser's light energy seals the vein shut allowing the now diminished vein to be reabsorbed by the body, rendering it nearly invisible. The pulses of light are also unique in that they are adjustable for duration, thus minimizing bruising.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion has become very popular with patients showing the early signs of aging, sun exposure and other facial imperfections. Non-invasive and non-wounding to the skin's surface, the procedure entails virtually no discomfort, down time or recovery. Patients typically experience some redness for about an hour after the procedure.

In addition to the face, microdermabrasion can be successfully used on the neck, arms and hands. It is also beneficial for patients with darker skin types.

This rejuvenation method is generally indicated for dull, oily or leathery skin texture, Contracting enlarged pores, exfoliating and suctioning clogged pores in acne cases, polishing and reducing fine lines, mild acne scarring, mild pigment irregularities, enhancing penetration of therapeutic agents.
